Brain of Baler

Yesterday’s Inquirer column of MLQ3 on Nick Joaquin’s last book – a biography of Senator Edgardo J. Angara:

NOT a magnum but surely minor opus was penned by Nick Joaquin shortly before he died: Titled “Ed Angara: Seer of Sea and Sierra,” the title makes the biography sound like it is the story of an oracle for finding fat tuna to fish and virgin forests to log — which the book is not. The book is the story of what has been, by any measure, a remarkable career: told within the context of the social and political history of the subject’s times.

  1. Last part of MLQ III article has a question……

“Does the Angara biography represent an opening salvo in a reelection campaign, or a valedictory for a long career in the public service?”
