Illegal logging is back, Aurora folk complain

from Manila Standard Today by Ferdie Domingo:

DINGALAN, Aurora—Only two years after three super-typhoons wiped out entire villages in this fourth-class town, residents complained that illegal logging has resumed at full steam with truck loads of newly-felled lumber being transported out of the remote village of Umiray at this province’s border with Quezon.

Residents, who asked not be identified for fear of reprisal, said at least 10 trucks of freshly-cut flitches were transported out of the town on Wednesday night. The trucks were estimated to have carried 12,000 board feet of flitches each.

  1. POVERTY IS A REALITY OUR COMMUNITY OF HOMEKEEPERS HAVE TO DEAL WITH… CORRUPTION AND VIOLENCE ARE ITS SYMPTOMS AND AFTERMATH… WHILE THERE ARE ALTERNATIVE AND POTENTIALLY BETTER SOLUTIONS, IT MAY TAKE SOMETIME TO ASSIMILATE AND ENFORCE THESE POTENTIALS AND POLICIES ALL THE WAY TO OUR MOST COMMON “TAO”…

FOR NOW, IT IS OF PRAYER AND ACTIONS, THAT WE GET TO THAT COMMUNITY AND DREAM WITH LESS SACRIFICES… (IN TERMS OF LIVES AND ENVIRONMENT)…

LIKE IN THE MEANTIME, WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE SEEING A LOT OF LOCAL CRAFTS CREATIVITY AND PRODUCTIVENESS…

BTY, ANOTHER KABABAYAN WON CITIGROUP’S ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARD FOR THIS YEAR… FROM SABANG, A FURNITURE PRODUCER…

  3. you see, how can something new, move forward if these problems have not been addressed. It will take a matter of perfect chemistry of worse weather conditon+deforested sierra madre+great timing and we all have a perfect calamity in philippine history much more worse than any tragedy around philippines.

Given the geographic locations for most municipalities in aurora and quezon, just resting below the the mountain range of majestic sierra madre and facing the great pacific ocean. These boundaries will become our walls and will retaliate in the future.

What happened to Dingalan in 2004 will eventually happen in Baler, Casiguran, Dinalungan etc.. if we still refuse to address the depressing situation. I BEG TO THE POLITICAL OFFICIALS OF AURORA AND QUEZON TO STOP LOGGING OPERATIONS, for the sake of those innocent people who has nothing to do with these acts of greediness and selfish personal interests!!!

CHANGE NATURE and NATURE CHANGES ALL OF US..

  4. I have a vision of people screaming trapped between the walls of Sierra Madre and the gulping ire of the Pacific ocean. It seems we cannot do anything. It seems we are resigned to our fate written by those whose only god is greed and selfishness. It seems that the only thing we can do is to pray but I’ve learned too that an answer to those who plead depends on the degree of their action, that destiny depends too much to those who have the courage to be a co-writer of their own. Whatever happen at the end is deserved by him who had allowed others to meddle with his own destiny.
