I will post most of this year’s Aurora Day Celebration events on the Batangbaler Facebook Page. I will also link updates in this post for those who don’t have Facebook accounts.

This year marks the 31st Foundation Anniversary of Aurora Province. Keeping to the spirit of using BAC initialed theme, this year’s theme is Aurora: Booming Amidst global economic Crisis. The schedule of events are posted here.

February 8, 2010. The Aurora Inter-Agency Sportsfest opens. A parade was held from Quezon Park to the Provincial Capitol. The highlight of the day was the Cheerdance Competition. The results: Green Team (Deped) – Champion, Violet Team (Provincial Government of Aurora) – 2nd and Black Team (Maria Aurora LGU) – 3rd. The muse and escort of the Violet Team won the Mr. & Ms. Sportsfest awards. The pictures of the parade from the Aurora Province FB Page . The Manuel L. Quezon Memorial Lodge No. 262 of the Free and Accepted Masons held its 28th Public Installation of Officers on February 6, 2010 at the Mount Carmel College covered court. VW Rodel T. Matias, PDDGM served as the installing officer. Hon. William C. Medrano (Ganano Lodge 313), Commissioner of the Commission on Higher Education was the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

from inquirer.net: Truck falls of cliff in Aurora, 3 injured. The accident happened in Brgy. Dianawan in Maria Aurora, the same place where another truck fell of a ravine last December (11 killed) and a fuel tank had an accident last October (3 injured).

The prolific Dimalangat Artists Community of Aurora recently participated in an art workshop, exhibit, and painting competition at Kunts Gallery in Batangas last January 29-31. Dimalangat member Vincent Gonzales was one of the juror’s price awardee in the competition. He is also running as a BOD member of the Art Association of the Philippines in this month’s election of officers.

This are my two kids GJ and Dylan doing their homework during one of the regular Baler brownouts. There was a 24-hour brownout that happened last Wednesday.

Lawstude’s Journeys blog posted great pictures of Baler as well as what he thinks are the 5S that makes this town great.

This week was also the Division Meet Week so traditionally, it’s a rainy week even though PAGASA satellite photos show a clear sky over Baler. Ymay posted some great photos of the opening parade and the cheerdance competition at the Provincial Capitol grounds. We also found out that the “running” theme song that’s being played during the Division Meet was titled Que Sera Mi Vida by the Gibson Brothers.

It was also the feast of the Sto. Niño and Ate Donna posted pictures of the “prusisyon” in honor of the child Jesus.

The list of all the local candidates for the May 2010 election was posted here courtesy of Comelec. A quick browse of the list shows that most of the usual suspects will be running for the election.
