Digisit is just 15 minutes away from ASCOT where I work so I like to go there whenever i needed to cure a “bonog” or to exorcise the devil. Now it’s flirting with development with the road concreted all the way to Dikasalarin and most properties fenced and staked. It looks like the place is now the one needing exorcism.

Aurora to Host 2009 Mutya ng Pilipinas, Announces Angara

So the rumor is true. I think this would be on July. from senate.gov.ph:

Senator Edgardo J. Angara today announced that his hometown province, Aurora, will host the 2009 Mutya ng Pilipinas – one of the most prestigious beauty pageant in the Philippines. “This momentous event will feature two distinct beauties which bring pride to the Philippines – the Filipina beauty and the beauty of nature and environment as captured by the province of Aurora,” said Angara who is a proud son of Baler Aurora. He added, “Aside from being blessed with abundant tourist attractions – from its natural attractions including picturesque waterfalls, lush greenery on mountainsides, and panoramic beaches, to various activities which includes surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, mountain climbing and trekking – Aurora and its people is proud to showcase its natural hospitality and warm welcome as we host the 2009 Mutya ng Pilipinas.”

Recently, a Memorandum of Agreement was signed between the province of Aurora, represented by Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo, and the Mutya ng Pilipinas, Inc. at the Sulo Hotel. The Mutya ng Pilipinas, Inc. (Mutya) is a non-stock, non-profit organization based in the Philippines and geared towards promoting peace, goodwill, trade and tourism among participating candidates from all over the Philippines including those from the Filipino communities in the East Coast USA, Midwest, California, Canada, Hawaii, Australia, Germany, United Kingdom, and Scandinavia. It also serves as a benefactor to select civic and charitable organizations. These objectives are fulfilled through staging of the National pageant events. This much-anticipated event which will happen at Aurora this year is made more special as the province celebrates Baler, Aurora’s 400th year of foundation. “I urge the public to come and visit Aurora to see and feel and rejuvenate with nature,” added Angara.

DENR freezes permits of lumber dealers in Aurora

Amid reports of unabated illegal logging in the remaining forests of the Sierra Madre mountains, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here has stopped the issuance of transport permits to lumber dealers without legitimate logging concessions in Aurora province.

“This is to ensure they (lumber dealers) are not made fronts or market outlets for illegal loggers,” said newly installed Central Luzon DENR executive director Antonio Principe.

Foreign fishers encroaching in Aurora

Fishing vessels reportedly owned by Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese companies have been encroaching on portions of the Philippine Sea in Aurora to fish for tuna, a senator said here.

“They come during the January-July tuna season. They’re the ones gaining from our resources,” said Sen. Edgardo Angara at the launch of the Aurora extension office here on Friday.

The haul could not be ascertained but Angara said eight fishing vessels, some with canneries, are seen almost daily during those months.

DENR employee in Aurora in hot water over P40.8M shortfall

Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Lito Atienza today issued a formal charge against an employee of a local DENR office in Aurora for failing to remit to the government some P40.8 million in forest charges paid by a logging firm from 2003 to June 2008.

Formally charged for falsification of public documents, malversation of public funds, dishonesty and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service was Vilma Ade Ritual, a bill collector assigned at the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Casiguran, Aurora.

Aside from Ritual, also issued show-cause memoranda were four officials and four other personnel from the provincial and community offices of the DENR in Aurora. The four officials asked to explain why they should not be charged administratively for negligence included Benjamin Miña, provincial environment and natural resources officer (PENRO) of Aurora; Luisito Pontigon, CENRO of Casiguran; Ederlinda Rabe, PENRO Accountant, and Roger Esteves, head of Forest Management Section, of CENRO-Casiguran

Aurora province remains isolated from the rest of Central Luzon due to landslides and widespread flooding brought about by continuous rains over the weekend.

This was the situation given by the Aurora province’s governor as she pleaded for help from the national government and non-government organizations.

Gov. Bella Flor Angara-Castillo said thousands of families in three low-lying towns including Casiguran, Dingalan, and Dilasag have been affected by moderate to heavy rains brought by the recent low-pressure area.

The three northern towns of Casiguran, Dilasag and Dinalungan here remain isolated, with at least one person reported drowned and three others missing, due to floods triggered by heavy rains in the past five days, the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council said yesterday.

Governor Bellaflor Angara-Castillo identified the fatality as Reynaldo Casabie, 58, a native of Rizal province, whose body was retrieved yesterday by rescuers along the riverbank in Barangay Dibet, Casiguran. He was reported missing since Saturday.
