Pangea Day

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

pangeaday_1_sshot

Watch it on Saturday May 10, 18:00 GMT (Sunday May 11 @ 2:00 AM Philippines)

In 2006, filmmaker Jehane Noujaim wished for a day where people all over the world would unite through the power of film.

Now, two years later, Jehane’s wish is coming true.

Millions of people in more than 150 countries will come together this Saturday at 18:00 GMT to watch a 4-hour program of 24 short films from storytellers around the world. Films were chosen based on their ability to inspire, transform and allow us to see the world through another person’s eyes.

Pangea Day films will be coupled with talks from CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Queen Noor of Jordan, child soldier Ishmael Beah, and many more.

The program will be hosted by Lisa Ling, Current TV’s Max and Jason, and June Arunga.

Pangea Day will also include live music, including performances by the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, Gilberto Gil, Rokia Traore, Mohamed Mounir and Iranian rock band Hypernova.

Think of it as a global campfire, and an opportunity to take part in a moment in history.

See you on May 10th!

Arnel Pineda

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Remember Arnel Pineda, the singer from the local band Zoo who was discovered on youtube by the guitarist of classic band Journey, of “Open Arms” fame, and later ended up as the band’s new vocalist? Well, Journey with Arnel on vocals just had their first performance last February 21 at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival at Chile, and from the videos of their performance, it seems that the crowd loves the Filipino guy. Here’s their performance of the classic Don’t Stop Believin’:

Us oldies might remember Arnel Pineda as the vocalist of Ang Tunay na Amo band from the 80s. They had a hit titled Running Away.

And here’s the band performing Faithfully:

And now, Open Arms:

Check out this short piece from the Rolling Stone magazine. Read the comments. Most are praises for the talent of the guy, some are racist remarks but they just can’t deny the power of the voice of this Pinoy.

Disclaimer: Although there are many Pineda’s in Baler, Arnel did not come from our small town between the sea and the sierra.

Akaw Rockers!

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

Calling all Akaw Rockers! No Akaw Invasion 2 yet. I just want to plug my new baby – pinoyrock.net. It’s a blog about, well read the name. Help me spread out the news okay? It’s still in soft launch status or beta mode so there might still be kinks in the design. I’m also looking for contributors who can churn out original articles about pinoyrock, album reviews, and gig reports – in English or Tagalog. There’s no financial rewards yet, but who knows?

The blog is here.

KC Concepcion’s Blog

Saturday, September 9th, 2006

If you’re a blogger and wants your baby to have a high rank on those blog ranking and listing sites, all you have to do is write about Philippine Idol, Pinoy Dream Academy, Pinoy Big Brother, Pinoy Pop Superstar, Starstuck, Majica, I Love New York, Bakekang, Kampanerang Kuba, Super Inggo, Captain Barbell, Atlantica etc, etc. Song lyrics are also great baits. You should be also on alert for the latest chika with internet twists like the Alysa Alano “Keys Me” video, and of course, the current in demand – KC Concepcion’s blog.

(Note: This is an experiment. I’ll see if this post can push up my ranking)
